TEHRAN – Iran’s security chief says a good nuclear deal with six major powers is more important than meeting the June 30 deadline, IRNA reported on Monday.
“The content of deal with the 5+1 is important for us and we will never sacrifice a good deal for time and deadline,” Ali Shamkhani told the Beirut-based al-Manar television.
Elsewhere in his interview with the Arabic language TV, Shamkhani said Western governments and Israel have created Daesh to deflect Muslims’ attention from the plight of the Palestinians.
They brought the Takfiri Daesh terrorists to existence to wreak havoc in the Middle East and undermine the unity of the Islamic world, said Shamkhani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Bullying powers have created Takfiri groups to undermine the power of the Islamic Ummah and prevent the Muslim world from focusing on the basic objective which is realizing the rights of the Palestinian people, he noted.
He also urged all sects in Iraq to join hands to counter terrorism.
Shamkhani, a former defense minister, also said that Iran is providing the Iraqi and Syrian governments with military advice, something which he said has been more effective than what the U.S.-led coalition has done against Daesh and other terrorist groups.
Shamkhani dismissed allegations that Iran has military presence in Syria. However, he said Iran would continue supporting Syrians in their campaign against terrorism.
Pointing to the U.S. war against terrorism in Afghanistan, he said the U.S. interference has only increased terrorism and drug trafficking in the region.
