TEHRAN – Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has said that Iran will spare no political and economic support for the Syrian government and expressed hope that Syria will emerge victorious in the war against “savage and adventurous” terrorists.
“In the campaign against terrorism Iran has always been helping the regional countries,” Larijani said in a press conference with Syrian Parliament speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Laham in Tehran on Monday.
Larijani added the scourge of terrorism is not just restricted to one country, saying fight against terrorism is essential for the future of humanity.
He described situation in the Mideast region as “complicated” and noted that the arrogant powers support terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria in order to advance their hegemonic policies.
Larijani also condemned the bombardment of the Yemeni people by a Saudi-led coalition, saying it indicates “wrong policies” of some countries that undermine security in the region.
------‘Saudi Arabia is worst enemy of Islamic world’
Al-Laham stated that Saudi Arabia is the worst enemy of the Islamic world and criticized policies adopted by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey on the crisis in Syria.
The Syrian official also praised Iran’s support for Syria.
He also said that the UN and the Islamic countries should play a significant role in regard to regional developments.
-----‘There is no actual will to fight terrorism’
The Syrian parliament speaker also said that fight against terrorism requires “actual will” at international level. However, he said such a will “does not exist”.
He also stated that Iran’s support for the Syrian people in spite of “shameful economic sanctions” against Tehran have been effective in helping the Syrians to resist terrorists.
He stated that Iran-Syria relation is very important to restore stability to the region.
Larijani said Syria has stood against the Zionist regime of Israel during the past years.
