Iran warns Saudis against any obstruction to helping Yemenis

TEHRAN – Iran’s Defense Ministry issued a statement on Wednesday warning the U.S. and Saudi Arabia against any obstruction to the process of sending food and medical help to the Yemeni citizens.

“America and the al-Saud regime should bear consequences of any provocative action and evil adventurism on the path of sending help to the Yemeni people,” the statement said.

Human Rights Watch said in a report released on May 3 that the Saudi-led military coalition has in the past few weeks used cluster munitions against Yemenis. It said the munitions have been supplied by the United States.

Amnesty International has called for an immediate investigation into the Saudi aggression against Yemen which has claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians so far.

“…campaign of airstrikes carried out by Saudi Arabia... has transformed many parts of Yemen into a dangerous place for civilians,” said Deputy Director of Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Programme Said Boumedouha said last month.

The statement by the Iranian Defense Ministry also strongly condemned Saudi Arabia’s “brutal attacks” on Yemen and called the U.S. “accomplice of the war criminals”.

“America is accomplice of the war criminals by supporting genocide in Yemen and the Iranian people’s act in sending food and medical aid was a humanitarian action to alleviate the pains of the oppressed Yemeni people,” it added.

The statement also said that the Pentagon’s call for diverting Iranian ship which was carrying humanitarian aid to Yemen is totally “illogical”.

The Pentagon has called on Iran to divert the ship toward Djibouti, where the United Nations is setting up a supply hub, and not unload humanitarian supplies in Yemen.

The statement said that there is no guarantee that the aid would be delivered to the Yemeni people immediately.

If the international organizations, specifically the UN, intend to help the “oppressed people” of Yemen, they should take essential measures to stop Saudi Arabia’s “brutal attacks” completely, the statement added.

The statement also said that the U.S. adopts “inhumane stance” and supports “child killer” regimes such as Israel and the House of Saud.
