TEHRAN -- The Iranian interior minister has issued an order to collect information on the bank accounts of top-brass smugglers.

The information is then to be reported to the Anti-Money Laundering Supreme Council, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli has mandated, the website of the Interior Ministry reported on Wednesday.

As the secretary of the general staff on campaign against drugs, Fazli has also ordered the formation of a special committee comprised of top representatives from related organizations to take the criminals down.

The interior minister has been making a dustup about how drug smuggling money has found a way into the country’s political arena, especially in electoral campaigns.

He was to present a rich set of documents on the case to the Majlis as he had vowed last week. However, in a total turnabout he offered only apologies to the “House of Nation” (parliament) when he appeared before the MPs on Monday.
