TEHRAN – The UN nuclear chief said on Wednesday that he planned to meet with the Iranian foreign minister next week.
Yukiya Amano, International Atomic Energy Agency director general, told Reuters that he planned to meet Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi next week, but had no firm details.“The most important message for Iran is that they need to fully implement the safeguard agreement and other relevant obligations. Further cooperation is needed to restore the confidence of the international community,” he said, adding, “We are quite concerned about that.”
Iran says it is currently observing the IAEA safeguards agreement, asserting the UN nuclear watchdog can not make any demand from Iran that goes beyond the IAEA safeguards agreement.
According to Reuters, Amano also reiterated he would consider accepting an invitation to visit Iran but stressed it would have to yield concrete results: “For now I don’t see, unfortunately, progress.”
On June 21, Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Director Fereydoun Abbasi Davani said that he had invited Amano to visit Iran’ nuclear facilities.
