TEHRAN - Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps announced that it has constructed missile silos on Monday, as its forces began the first stage of a war game.

A launch facility (LF), also known as a missile silo, is an underground vertical cylindrical container for the storage and launching of ballistic missiles. They typically have the missile some distance under the surface, protected by a large “blast door” on top. They are usually connected, either physically or electrically, to a missile launch control center.
Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force, said the IRGC gained access to the missile silo technology some 15 years ago and silos have been installed across the country since then.
Only a few advanced countries in the world have the technology to build and operate missile silos, Hajizadeh added.
Hajizadeh also said the use of silos is only one of a chain of missile tactics of the IRGC.
The IRGC started the first stage of the military drills on Monday. The second stage begins today.
On Sunday, Hajizadeh announced that the war game conveys the message of peace and friendship to regional countries.
Long-range, mid-range, and short-range missiles, including the Khalij-e Fars, Shahab 1, and Shahab 2 missiles, as well as the latest military equipment manufactured by the IRGC Aerospace Force, will be used in the war game, Hajizadeh noted.
The maneuver’s goal is to assess and strengthen the preparedness of Iran’s military forces, he said, adding that new military tactics will be put into practice.
Hajizadeh also said the maneuver poses no threat to other countries and is being held within the framework of the annual schedule of the armed forces in order to maintain their preparedness and deterrence strength.
