TEHRAN – Najib Mikati, Lebanon’s prime minister designate, has praised Iran for playing a positive role in Lebanon’s political scene, which would help resolve the political crisis facing the country.

Mikati made the remarks during a recent meeting with Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Ghazanfar Roknabadi.
“Lebanon needs the Islamic Republic of Iran’s economic and technical experiences and capabilities, so I will try to expand economic cooperation with Iran in all areas soon after the formation of the government,” Mikati said.
The Lebanon’s prime minister designate also said he plans to bring political stability and economic prosperity back to Lebanon, and to support the resistance movement against the Zionist regime.
The Iranian ambassador highlighted the importance of unity and understanding among various Lebanese groups, saying Iran is ready to help speed up the formation of the new Lebanese government.
Roknabadi also said that Iran is keen to put into effect its previous agreements with Lebanon and sign new economic agreements as well.
Lebanon was plunged into a political crisis after 11 ministers of the opposition March 8 Alliance, whose main parties are Hezbollah, Amal, and the Free Patriotic Movement, quit the Lebanese cabinet on January 12 over tensions arising from a UN probe into the 2005 assassination of former prime minister Rafiq Hariri, toppling the government of the U.S.-backed Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
Later Najib Mikati was tasked to form a government; however, he has not selected his cabinet members yet.
