TEHRAN -- “Lola” from the Philippines took home two Crystal Simorghs on Tuesday at the international section of the 29th Fajr Film Festival.

Directed by Brillante Mendoza, the movie took the Best Film Award, and Anita Linda and Rustica Carpio shared the Best Actress Award.
The symmetrical story basically concerns two elderly matriarchs who must bear the financial and legal ramifications of a crime in which both their grandsons are involved. One is murdered with a knife, while the other is the prime suspect.
The international section of the festival that opened on Saturday wrapped up on Tuesday, giving the best awards to foreign entries of the year.
Iranian movie “Golchehreh” by director Vahid Musaian took the Best Film Award at the Inter-Religious Section at the festival.
The Golden Flag (Beiraq Talaii), previously named the Moustapha Akkad Award, was given to Iranian film “Alzheimer” by Ahmadreza Motamedi.
The ceremony continued by presenting awards to the winners at the Asian Cinema Competition Section.
The Best Technical and Artistic Achievement Award was given to Parvin Safari for “The Maritime Silk Road” by Mohammad Bozorgnia. The movie also brought the Best Cinematography Award to Bahram Badakhshani.
A Special Jury Award was presented to “The One Man Village”, a film by Simon El Habre from Lebanon.
The Chinese film “My Mongolian Mother” by director Cai Ning also received the Best Screenplay Award and Liu Jie took the Best Director Award for “Deep in the Clouds”.
Iranian director Jamal Shurjeh was honored next with the Best Film Award for his “33 Day” at the Human Rights Award. The joint Iranian-Lebanese film was previously entitled “Heavenly South” which is a documentary on the Israeli 33-Day War of 2006 against Lebanon.
The Jaam-e Jahan-Nama Section also presented its several awards to the winners. The Best Director Award went to Iranian Dariush Mehrjuii for “Beloved Sky”.
The Best Cinematography Award of this section was presented for “How I Ended This Summer” from Russia by director Aleksei Popogrebsky.
Director Negar Azarbaijani took the Jury Special Award for “The Opposite Mirrors”.
The festival will continue until the next coming days closing on February 15.
