TEHRAN -- Chairman of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines Mohammad Nahavandian was elected as one of the 20 council members of the World Chambers Federation (WCF).

The WCF on Tuesday announced the results of its first ever election to select General Council members. More than a third of WCF’s members, with memberships from more than 120 countries voted for their 20 preferred representatives in online elections.
The WCF General Council is responsible for determining its policies and programs. The Council comprises 50 members in total, with representation from transnational, national, regional, local, public and private law chambers, large and small. Each elected member will serve for a period of three years, as 12 co-opted members also do. Seven transnational chambers, holding memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements with ICC also have positions on the council.
The final composition of the council sees strong representation from all parts of the membership worldwide, with eight representatives from the Americas, 10 representatives from the Africa/Middle East region, 14 Asia representatives and 18 representatives from Europe.
The WCF was established by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in 1951 to be the advocate of its chamber of commerce members worldwide. WCF is a non-political, non-governmental body representing the interests of all local, national, regional, bilateral and transnational chambers of commerce and industry.
WCF strengthens links between chambers, enabling them to improve performance as well as discover new products and services to offer their members.
