TEHRAN – The Sunni residents of Chabahar, a city in Sistan-Baluchestan province, held a massive protest march on Saturday to condemn a deadly terrorist attack in their city.

On Wednesday, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device outside a mosque in the southeastern city of Chabahar during a Shia religious ceremony, killing 35 people and injuring more than 100 others. Women and children were among the victims.
The culprits behind such attacks intend to sow discord among Shias and Sunnis in Sistan-Baluchestan province.
The rally by the people of Chabahar follows a strong condemnation of the move by the Sunni clerics in the province.
The terrorist group Jundullah claimed responsibility for the bombing.
Iran has arrested nine suspects in connection with the attack.
In addition, several countries and leaders, including UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon denounced the terrorist attack.
“He (Ki-moon) is shocked and dismayed by this abhorrent terrorist act directed at mourners commemorating the holy day of Ashura,” AFP quoted Ki-moon’s spokesman as saying on Wednesday.
The secretary general also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and to the Iranian government.
Moreover, U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday strongly deplored terrorist attack.
“I strongly condemn the outrageous terrorist attack on a mosque in Chabahar, Iran,” Obama said in a written statement.
“The murder of innocent civilians in their place of worship during Ashura is a despicable offense, and those who carried it out must be held accountable. This is a disgraceful and cowardly act.”
Obama also said, “The United States stands with the families and loved ones of those killed and injured, and with the Iranian people, in the face of this injustice.”
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also condemned the bombing and condoled with the families of the victims.
Clinton said, “This is yet another example of terrorists using cowardly methods to inflict pain and fear on innocent civilians,” and added the perpetrators must be held to account for what they did.
Also on Friday, Iraqi Interior Minister Jawad Al-Bolani said the ministry is ready to cooperate with Tehran in fight against terrorists.
The French Foreign Ministry spokesperson, the British Foreign Office minister, the Pakistani interior minister, the Turkish prime minister, the Spanish government, Russia’s Foreign Ministry , Secretary General of Organization Islamic Conference (OIC), and Hezbollah secretary general also condemned the attack
