TEHRAN -- Swiss graphic designer Bruno Monguzzi has been invited to hold an exhibit of his works at the Iranian Artists Forum late November.
Monguzzi was an old friend of deceased Iranian designer Morteza Momayyez, known as father of Iranian graphic art, his widow Afsaneh Momayyez told the Persian service of the Fars News Agency.“Morteza and Bruno had met each other several times but he never had the chance to display his works here in Tehran and now he has been invited to do so on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Momayyez’s death,” she added.
The exhibit will open on November 26 and will run for one week, while Monguzzi is also scheduled to speak on the side section, she remarked.
Also in August 2006, Frenchman Alain Le Quernec and Dutchman Ben Boss, two other old friends of Momayyez, attended a ceremony on the anniversary of Momayyez’s birth at the forum. Momayyez, Boss, and Le Quernec befriended over 30 years ago in France when they were members of the AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale).
A selection of photos taken by Momayyez will also be put on show in the Mirmiran Gallery of the forum. Only once before his death did he display his photos.
Momayyez died of cancer at the age of 69 on November 26, 2005. Several months later, the Momayyez Foundation was established by his family, friends and former students to promote his works and offer training in the field of graphics.
He worked as costume designer in the production of 14 plays and two films, and designed posters for numerous Iranian movies.
He was the chairman of the board of directors of the Iranian Graphic Designers Society from 1988 and compiled six books on painting and graphic design.
In April 2004, Momayyez was honored by the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (ICOGRADA) with a lifetime achievement award.
