French First Lady Carla Bruni banned from visiting

As French President Nicolas Sarkozy prepares to visit Vatican, he has been told by Pope that his wife are not welcome to visit the city. The Pope reportedly is wary that if she visited Vatican, her provocative photographs may be published by Italian media.

The French Ambassador was sent a clear message by the Vatican officials that “Carla Sarkozy is not welcome.” During her husband’s 30 minute audience scheduled with the Pope, her presence is not desired by the Pope.
Bruni- Sarkozy’s visit would prompt the Italian newspapers to publisher old photos, as per a comment by Le Canard Enchaine which is a weekly. It further wrote that the Pope doesn’t want to go public with photos showing both of them in one frame.
During the short visit of the French President’s visit to the Pope, Carla Sarkozy remained in Paris. This visit was to placate the Conservative Catholic citizen of the France, who was angry with the ruling party due to the deportation of the Roma from France. Vatican had condemned and criticized the deportation.
