TEHRAN – Tehran Prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolat-Abadi says the former Tehran prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi is the prime defendant in the Karizak case, TABNAK reported.
“The defendants of the Kahrizak case should not be identified before judge issues the rulings, but the Mortazavi case was made public by the media outlets. He is the main defendant,” Jafari Dolat-Abadi said on Tuesday.Judiciary officials who have been involved in the Karizak incident have been suspended and they are facing law, he added.
The detention center came into the spotlight after it was revealed that three post-election detainees were beaten to death there. Mohsen Rouholamini, Mohammad Kamrani, and Amir Javadifar were the three men who died at Kahrizak.
The defendants of Kahrizak case are charged with violating the law in dealing with the post-election detainees at the detention center.
Mortazavi is blamed for sending 147 post-election inmates to the Kahrizak detention center, which was originally designed only for rapists, dangerous criminals, hooligans, and major drug dealers. Other offenders, including post-election detainees, should not have been sent to this center.
Mortazavi had claimed that Kahrizak had appropriate and standard conditions for incarcerating the detainees.
Harsh corporal punishment, humiliating and insulting techniques, ill-treatment, packed confinement in small rooms, and deprivation of adequate food were utilized against the detainees.
The Kahrizak detention center, located south of Tehran, was closed last year on the order of the Supreme Leader.
The Supreme Leader also ordered the Judiciary to deal firmly with those involved in the Kahrizak incidents and prosecute the offenders who “perpetrated crimes in this detention center.”
