TEHRAN – Russia was misled by the U.S. into voting in favor of sanctions against Iran, MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Sunday.

On June 9, the United Nations Security Council voted 12-2 in favor of a resolution imposing new sanctions on Iran. Brazil and Turkey voted “no” and Lebanon abstained.
Moscow should be aware that the U.S. has deployed its troops and missile shields in the region in order to act against Russia, Boroujerdi told reporters.
On China’s vote for the sanction resolution, he said Iran expects Beijing not to succumb to U.S. pressure.
Asked about a proposal by the French president to hold talks with Iran, he said, “Carrot and stick policy is threadbare for us. They (the West) think they can pressure us…..and then ask for talks.”
French President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Saturday that Paris is ready to start talks with Tehran over its nuclear program at the International Atomic Energy Agency “without delay.”
Next talks with the West would be held after Iran decides how to continue interactions with the Western countries, Boroujerdi noted
