Servati to stage Iranian adaptation of “Macbeth” in Georgia

TEHRAN -- The narration of Iranian stage director and playwright Reza Servati from “Macbeth” will go on stage in five Georgian cities.
Entitled “Macbeth”, the play is an adaptation of the Shakespearean tragedy which won the Special Jury Award from the International Section of the Fajr International Theater Festival in 2010.They staged their first performance at the University of Georgia Performing Art Center on Tuesday and will have performances in Tbilisi, Chiatura, Port of Batumi and Poti port.
The director described the play as “a nonlinear narrative of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ in a nightmarish atmosphere which depicts Sisyphus’ eternal punishment for Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in a minimalistic performance and acting style.
Reza Servati won the Best Director Award and the Best Costume and Stage Awards went to Shima Mirmohammadi at the 12th International University Theater Festival.
The play was staged at the Sayeh Hall of Tehran’s City Complex and received warm applause from the audience.
The event is organized by Caucasus Foundation, Tbilisi Ilia State University, the Center for Dramatic Arts of Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and Iran’s Embassy in Georgia.
