TEHRAN Referring to the visit of Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi to Saudi Arabia, Radio France said, Iran and Saudi Arabia play an important role not at the regional level but in the Islamic countries. The issue of Afghanistan is an important problem the two countries are interested to discuss. Saudi Arabia has tried to mediate between Iran and Egypt. Tehran-Cairo mutual ties have improved to the highest level in the recent years, it said.

An Analyst told Radio France that Iran and Saudi Arabia are among the important countries of the Persian Gulf and even the Middle East region. Any decision about the regional problems without the coordination with these two countries will be futile. Kharrazi in his visit to Saudi Arabia tried to convince the Saudi officials that supporting the Taleban is to the determent of the region and even against the interests of Saudi Arabia itself.
