TEHRAN (MNA) -- In the run-up to the June 12 presidential election and shortly afterwards, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting experienced disruption in its satellite signals, a senior Islamic Revolution Guards Corps official told reporters here on Saturday.

There were reports of disruptive signals that overlapped with IRIB’s signals, which were part of the enemies’ attempts to prevent election coverage on state TV, Brigadier General Gholamreza Jalali said.
“The disruptive signals were so powerful that in one case 13 provinces experienced difficulties receiving the televised debate of two presidential candidates,” added Jalali, who is the Chairman of the State Passive Defense Organization.
“Fortunately, as a result of preventive steps taken by the Passive Defense Organization at IRIB, we managed to counter the disruptive signals and continue broadcasting TV programs as before,” he explained.
The plot was hatched by certain enemies of the country that were desperately trying to disrupt election coverage on TV, he said.
“Since it is a legal issue, it requires further investigation into the case in order to identify those behind the case,” he stated.
The State Passive Defense Organization is affiliated to the Headquarters of Iran’s Armed Forces and tasked with concealing and protecting the country’s sensitive and important facilities and minimizing their vulnerability to enemy attacks. The main duty of the organization is facilitating the continuity of government in times of crisis
