TEHRAN – Mahdi Karroubi officially appointed Gholam-Hossein Karbaschi as his senior advisor and campaign chief in the run-up to June presidential election.

Karbaschi, the Servants of Construction Party secretary general and former Tehran mayor, said his support for Karroubi is because of his unyielding personality and his efforts in achieving great goals.
Karbaschi dismissed rumors that Karroubi has offered him the post of first vice president if he wins the presidential poll.
In an interview with the Mehr News Agency on Tuesday Karbaschi said he has no interest in executive posts.
The former Tehran mayor said the reason for supporting Karroubi is because of his insistence to resolve the people’s problems.
Karroubi, the National Confidence Party secretary general and former Majlis speaker, declared his official candidacy for the presidential elections on October 12 last year.
Karroubi had earlier said that he would not change his mind about running for president.
On the candidacy of former president Mohammad Khatami, the SCP secretary general noted that he will support Khatami if reformists reach a consensus on him.
Asked whether he himself does not intend to run for president, he said he has not decided to run in the election yet.
He added that each person who can win more polls should contest the race
