Iranian cameraman awarded at Dubai festival

TEHRAN -- Iranian cameraman Reza Teimuri won the Best Cinematographer Award for Ramtin Lavafipur’s “Be Calm and Count to Seven” at the 5th Dubai International Film Festival.

The film was screened at the Muhr AsiaAfrica Feature Section of the festival, which was held from December 11 to 18.
The film narrates the story of a youth named Motu, who is a member of a gang of youths who retrieve contraband from the sea. Meanwhile, Motu’s father has disappeared while transporting illegal human cargo and the smugglers’ middleman contends with a toothache and tense telephone calls from his wife in Tehran.
A number of Iranian films were also screened in various categories of the event.
Nader Davudi’s “Aref Squared” was screened at the Muhr Asia-Africa Documentary Section and “The Song of Sparrows” by Majid Majidi and “Three Women” by Manijeh Hekmat were go on screen at the festival’s Cinema of Asia-Africa Section. “35 Meters from the Water” by Hooman Seyyedi competed at the Muhr Asia-Africa Short Section of the event.
The celebrated Iranian filmmaker Rakhshan Bani-Etemad was the head of the jury of the Muhr Asia-Africa Documentaries section and Iranian actress and director Niki Karimi chaired the members of the jury for the Muhr Asia-Africa Features.
The Muhr Award for Excellence in Arab Cinema was launched in 2006, with the aim of recognizing Arab filmmakers both regionally and internationally. In 2008, the Muhr Awards for Excellence have been expanded to include two separate competitions: one for the Arab Muhr Award, and the other for the Asia-Africa Muhr Award.
