TEHRAN -- Tehran will join the list of major cities to host World AIDS Day concerts this year, the organizers announced during a press conference at the Iranian Artists Forum on Sunday.

Iranian pop stars Alireza Assar, Mani Rahnama, Reza Yazdani, and Mehran Modiri will be performing at the National Grand Hall during the concerts, scheduled to be held from November 7 to 12, prior to December 1, which marks World AIDS Day.
The UNICEF-sponsored performances have been organized by UNAIDS, the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS and the Iranian cultural institute, Golcheen-e Ava-ye Sharq, will arrange the concerts’ programs.
“Every year, in a collaborative effort with UN, we organize programs to commemorate World AIDS Day,” said Omid Zamani, an official of UNICEF office in Tehran said during the press conference.
This year, Golcheen-e Ava-ye Sharq proposed to arrange the concerts in this respect and the singers were selected by the institute, he added.
Yazdani and Rahnama as well as Assar’s publicist Habib Saburi also attended the conference.
A portion of the money to be raised by the concerts will be spent in the UNAIDS prevention programs for children, youth, and women.
