TEHRAN (IRNA) -- The Iranian ambassador to Bahrain said that Iran is interested in talks with the US on the basis of mutual respect.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian added in an interview with the Bahraini English newspaper 'Bahrain Tribune' that Iran has earlier warned the U.S. about its mistakes in Iraq during the previous talks.
Stating that Washington's provocative statements about Iran are only propaganda and of no value, he said, ""We held talks with the U.S. for the sake of Iraqis.""
Commenting on the negative remarks by the Democrat presidential candidate, Barack Obama, and the possibility of improvement in Iran-U.S. relations in the case of his victory in elections, he said that Obama has made remarks during his electoral campaign which were beyond expectation.
""However, what is important for us is that the U.S. changes its attitude towards Iran,"" he said.
Turning to terrorist acts in Iraq, Amir-Abdollahian further said that the country's efforts to counter terrorism are confirmed by Iran.
""We will support Iraq in putting an end to violence in the country,"" he noted.
Iran has had necessary cooperation in rebuilding the war-stricken Iraq and it has signed more than 100 agreements in different fields with the country which are now being implemented, he said.
The minister also stressed the continuation of cooperation with International Atomic Energy Agency as well as talks with the Group 5+1 and said that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful and it favors negotiations based on the common points of packages exchanged between the country and the group.
In response to a question by the newspaper on the possibility of Iran's talks with Tel Aviv, given the secret talks between several regional countries and Israel, he said that Israel is an illegitimate regime and Tehran will never recognize it to negotiate with it.
Commenting on cooperation among Persian Gulf littoral states, Amir-Abdollahian further said, ""We will try to promote peace and security in the region.""
Tehran has focused all its efforts on boosting peace and stability in the region, which will help strengthen ties among the regional countries.
