ASEAN Ladies Circle hold Noodles Festival in Tehran

TEHRAN – The ASEAN Ladies Circle with the cooperation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) embassies in Tehran held a “Noodles Festival” at Royal Thai Embassy on 26 August 2008.

The event is one of the activities of ASEAN in line with the commemoration of its 41st Anniversary, which aimed to raise awareness on ASEAN foods especially its noodles.
ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok by the five original member countries, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined on 8 January 1984, Vietnam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999.
Madam Sheik Attar, wife of deputy foreign minister and one of the officers of Iranian Diplomatic Ladies Association, opened the festival with Madammes of ASEAN embassies.
ASEAN member countries with Embassies in Tehran namely Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam participated in the event.
The participating countries showcased their popular noodles with some native handicrafts and products including fashion accessories, home accessories, clothes and food.
Philippine Embassy prepared ""pancit palabok"" and ""chicken sotanghon soup"" for food tasting; and among items on sale in the booth were pearl accessories, shell and capiz products and Universal Robina Corporation's Nissin noodles products.
Thai Embassy, host of the event, also prepared different types of Thai food and delicacies for the guests.
