Iran, Turkmenistan settle Dusti Dam problems

TEHRAN – Iran’s deputy energy minister announced here on Sunday that the problems of Dusti (Friendship) Dam were solved during President Mahmud Ahmadinejad’s recent visit to Turkmenistan.
Rassul Zargar added that two memorandums were signed by the sides, one of which was about the dam.Dusti Dam was built under a joint venture project between Iran and Turkmenistan.
It was constructed on Hari Rud River, running through the joint borders between the two neighboring countries.
The project supplies irrigation water for some 25,000 hectares of farmlands in the region.
The dam became operational in 2004, he said, adding 30 percent of the dam’s capacity was filled before the cuurent year, he said, adding, joint exploitation was also mentioned in the memo.
