TEHRAN – The first dual-purpose gas pipeline of Iran will be put into operation in 2008, announced Gas Engineering and Development Company Saturday.

The national gas pipeline executive official Gholamreza Sahba said the line passes through the northern and northeastern towns and cities of Parchin, Garmsar, Semnan, Damghan, Shahrud, Sabzevar, Sangbast, and Mashhad with a 48-inch 800km-long pipe and heads for the towns of Mayamay and Dasht-e Shad with a 42-inch 100km-long pipe.

The line has the capacity to transfer and import gas. All pipelines now working in the country are only transferring the commodity.
