Iran culture minister vows to bolster support for music

TEHRAN -- Iranian Culture Minister Mohammad-Hossein Saffar Harandi here Saturday vowed to broaden support for genuine music.

He made the promise in a meeting with the living traditional music legend Mohammadreza Shajarian.

“With the aid of great artists like you, Iran’s music will make good progress in the future,” Saffar Harandi told the singer at the Vahdat Hall in central Tehran on the sidelines of Iran Music Celebration, marking the seventh establishment anniversary of Iran’s Music House.

Mohammad-Hossein Imani-Khoshkhu, the deputy culture minister for art affairs, Hamidreza Nurbakhsh, the house managing director, and Dariush Pirniakan, the house spokesman, also attended the meeting.

Iran Music Celebration paid homage to veteran Iranian musicians Farhad Fakhreddini, Shahram Nazeri, Hossein Alizadeh, and Keikhosro Purnazeri.

A movie featuring Iranian music figures’ views about bad and good music premiered at the event.
