TEHRAN -- Iranian poet Nezami Ganjavi’s love stories of “Leyli-o-Majnun" and “Khosrow-o-Shirin” were translated into the Uzbek language, Iran’s cultural attache in Uzbekistan said Sunday.

Abbas-Ali Vafaii, who talked to IRNA, added the books were translated by the Uzbek poet Alim Jan Buriev, edited by Muhammad Khan Muminov, and published by Al-Hoda Publications.

He expressed hope that publication of the books will help strengthen the literary and scientific relations between the two nations.

Nezami Ganjavi (1141-1209) lived and died in Ganja, an ancient city in Azerbaijan, where his mausoleum stands.

He wrote in Persian as it was the literary custom of the day.
