TEHRAN -– The Yemeni and Irish ambassadors to Tehran met separately with Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki on Sunday.

Irish Ambassador John Didi and Mottaki called for the promotion of ties between Dublin and Tehran.

“Relations between Iran and Ireland have always been friendly. However, we can take more positive steps within the framework of Tehran-Dublin interests by boosting political, economic, cultural, and parliamentary cooperation,” Mottaki said.

The foreign minister stressed the importance of consultations between the two countries in dealing with international challenges and unilateralist approaches in the United Nations.

Ireland’s new ambassador to Tehran said Dublin is determined to expand ties with the Islamic Republic in all areas.

Didi, who presented his credentials to Iran’s top diplomat, voiced optimism that he would be able to deepen mutual cooperation during his mission to Iran.

Meanwhile, at a separate meeting, Yemeni Ambassador Jamal Abdullah submitted a written message from the Yemeni foreign minister to Mottaki. The Iranian foreign minister said, "We welcome the expansion of ties between the two sides. My recent visit to Yemen had a fruitful and very profound impact on the two sides’ relations."

Iran wants to upgrade ties with Yemen through the exchange of visits by officials, he added.

The Yemeni ambassador expressed satisfaction over the expansion of ties between the two countries and said that high-ranking Yemeni officials are determined to continue negotiations in order to strengthen bilateral relations.

Yemen supports Iran's efforts to gain access to nuclear technology meant for peaceful purposes and the current negotiations between Iran and the European Union on Iran's nuclear dossier and hopes the issue will be resolved successfully, he said.
