TEHRAN (MNA) — Renewable energies will be used to supply part of the national energy basket, Shahriyar Jalali, the deputy director for planning of the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran (REOI), said on Monday.

According to projections, at least one percent of the country’s electricity will be generated through renewable resources, mostly by the private sector, by the end of the Fourth Five-Year Development Plan (2005-2010), Jalali stated on the sidelines of a workshop on the use of renewable energies in agriculture held in Kermanshah Province.

Renewable energies are unlimited plus they cause no pollution or environmental damage, and that is why they are good substitutes for the fossil fuel energies currently being utilized, he noted.

This issue has been high on Iran’s agenda since 1994 and serious efforts have been made to develop renewable energies, he said, predicting that the country would attain a good position in the region due to the appropriate objectives set for the renewable energy sector.
