TEHRAN Majlis deputies will elect with secret ballots the 12 members of the Presiding Board of the Majlis for the third year of the 5th Majlis. The Presiding Board comprises speaker, two vice-speakers, six secretaries and three clerks. According to the Majlis regulations, the speaker should secure absolute majority of votes while for other positions, relative majority will suffice. In case, candidates for speakership fail to secure absolute majority in the first round of elections, relative majority will be sufficient in the second round.

Some news circles believe Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri will be elected speaker with absolute majority. Nateq Nouri was elected speaker of Parliament in the first and second years of the Fifth Majlis while securing 146 and 211 votes, respectively. The sources, however, do not reject the possibility that other candidats for speakership might be introduced. (IRNA)
