Kharrazi, Jamali Discuss Bilateral, Regional Issues

TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Iran and Pakistan discussed here Tuesday bilateral relations as well as key regional developments.

Visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali, in a meeting with Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi, said Iran and Pakistan play an important and promising role in regional developments and in the Islamic World.

He added that Iran and Pakistan played an important role in establishing stability and security in Afghanistan.

He underlined the importance of expanding cooperation in the fields of commerce and energy and said promotion of customs regulations in order to enhance trade exchanges, using Iran's potentials in production of electricity and transfer of gas via Pakistan are among key priorities for bilateral cooperation between the two sides. Kharrazi, for his part, pointed to strong bonds between the two nations and said, "Iran and Pakistan enjoy great potentials for strengthening mutual relations which demand serious will and effort of their officials."

He added the project of gas transfer, activating border customs offices aiming at consolidation of commercial ties and bilateral cooperation in implementation of transportation projects between the two countries can pave the grounds for cooperation between Iran and Pakistan. Pointing to positive cooperation between Iran and Pakistan on Afghanistan, Kharrazi said, "Consultations between Tehran and Islamabad can entail effective outcomes on promotion of multilateral cooperation between Tehran, Kabul and Islamabad."

Pakistani Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali arrived here Tuesday on an official four-day visit to Iran for further strengthening of ties between Iran and Pakistan, particularly in various economic fields.

The visit is taking place at the official invitation of Iran.
