Austria Will Try to Accomodate Iran's Views In EU Policies

TEHRAN - Austrian Deputy Economic Minister Josef Mayer met the Deputy Head of the Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines Assadollah Asgarowladi Tuesday and said, Austria will try to accomodate Iran's views in future policies of European Union. The Public Relations Department of Iran's Chamber of Commerce reported that Mayer further said that Austria can expand cooperation with Iran in transportation and road building.
In addition, he added, telecommunications, agriculture, forestry, exchange of technical know-how and tourism are also areas in which bilateral ties could be strengthened. Referring to the trade volume, Mayer said that Iran's exports to Austria increased by 50 percent in 1996 but, in the same period Austria's exports to Iran declined by about the same amount. It is desirable that bilateral trade is balanced, he added.
Asgarowladi further said that Iran's private sector is willing to expand trade with Austria and exchange of expert teams can resolve many of the outstanding issues. He reiterated that an Austrian delegation will arrive shortly in Tehran with the aim of expanding economic ties. Asgarowladi said that the two countries' chambers of commerce are effective bodies to help push the volume of bilateral trade to one billion dollars annually.
