TEHRAN The Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mahmoud Mohammadi here on Sunday expressed concern over the indifference of the international community towards the growing arm activities of the Zionist regime. ``The Zionist regime, through support of the U.S. and some other Western countries, has transformed the occupied territories into a depot for new arms and ammunition which threatens the stability and security of the region and the world.

``To divert the world's public opinion from this war mongering policies, the U.S., the Zionist regime and some circles and personalities affiliated to them have embarked on a misinformation campaign accusing Iran of a drive to achieve nuclear weapons. ``This is despite the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran, based on its foreign policy and its attention to international regulations, has called for a Middle East free from weapons of mass destruction.'' The Foreign Ministry spokesman added, The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on the international community to pressure the Zionist regime to destroy its nuclear warheads and its weapons of mass destruction.

``The international community should also pressure the Zionist regime's Western supporters to end their support for non-stop growth of its stockpile of nuclear armaments.'' Mohammadi further described as unfounded the allegations by the British foreign secretary claiming the existence of an Iranian program to achieve nuclear technology and that the British intelligence service, MI6, has successfully disrupted such efforts. Stressing the transparency of Iran's policies in campaign against weapons of mass destruction, Mohammadi said, The statements by the British foreign secretary aims to divert the British public opinion from the controversial issue of arrival of Georgian nuclear wastes to the Scottish territories.'' On the subject of European Union's relations with Iran, Mohammadi said that EU ministers in their March 30 meet expressed desire to start a dialogue with Iran which was welcomed by the Islamic Republic. The spokesman added that there currently exists negotiations between Iran and EU at director general level which aims to define the framework of comprehensive negotiations.
