KUWAIT CITY -- Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) Mahdi Karrubi here on Tuesday termed his three-day visit to Kuwait as "successful and constructive."

Karrubi made the remark in an interview with IRNA before he was to depart for Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

Stressing the importance of exchange visits made by officials of friendly officials, he said such visits can raise the level of cooperation and interaction among nations.

The Iranian Majlis speaker further said that the critical situation in Iraq, the issue of Palestine, Kuwaiti war refugees and Iran-Kuwait relations in the political, economic and cultural areas were top on the agenda of talks held between the Iranian delegation and senior Kuwaiti officials.

During his visit, Karrubi met high-ranking Kuwaiti officials including Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad as-Sabah, Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly (Majlis al-Umma) Jasem al-Kharafi and First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber as-Sabah.

In Dushanbe, the second leg of his six-day regional tour, Karrubi is to meet with several Tajik officials, including President Imomali Rakhmonov, Prime Minister Akil Akilov, Parliament Speaker Mahmadsaid Ubaydullayev and Foreign Minister Talbak Nazarov.

Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad-Ali Abtahi, Deputy Parliament Speaker Behzad Nabavi and a number of MPs are accompanying Karrubi in this regional tour.
