TEHRAN – The capacity of the domestic refineries is planned to hit 900,000 barrels per day (bpd) within the next five years, noted deputy oil minister Mohammad-Reza Nematzadeh.

Like other industrial plants, the refineries too have limited effective life spans, therefore, renovation and modernization of a number of old refineries are on the agenda, the Persian service of IRNA quoted Saturday Nematzadeh who is also the managing director of the Oil Products Refining and Distribution Company.

There are plans for improvement, modernization and boosting the output capacity of the refineries, noted the oil official during his visit of Arak Refinery.

As the nation’s oldest refinery, Abadan Refinery is now 90 years old, renovation and repairing of different sections of the plant is currently underway, he said.

He also stated that the nominal production capacity of Arak Refinery currently stood at 150,000 bpd and explained that the plant produced 180,000 bpd of various oil products.
