Iran, Russia to Cooperate in Area of Human Rights

MOSCOW Iranian ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Safari and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Zubakov in a meeting here on Thursday explored areas of cooperation between Tehran and Moscow in the area of human rights. Safari, referring to the level of cooperation between Tehran and Moscow, said that unfortunately the two countries have not had proper cooperation in the area of human rights and that more efforts should be made in that concern.

Zubakov for his part underlined the need for expansion of cooperation between Iran and Russia in defending fundamentals of human rights. He said that recent visit to Moscow of Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi has motivated expansion of relations between Tehran and Moscow. He added that his country is ready to cooperate with Iran in human rights related fields at bilateral and international levels.

Moreover, he said that he is ready to pay an official visit to Tehran in order to hold more talks with Iranian officials. (IRNA)
