Iran’s “21 Weeks Later” to compete at Duhok International Film Festival

TEHRAN- Iranian short film “21 Weeks Later,” written and directed by Nasrin Mohammadpour, will go on screen at the main section of the 11th edition of Duhok International Film Festival in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

The 14-minute film, a 2023 production, is about a young woman who has decides to have an abortion while her husband disagrees.

Banafsheh Riazi, Leila Hassanzadeh, Soudabeh Bahraminejad, and Parisa Asgari are in the cast.

The Duhok International Film Festival is a unique cinematic event located in Kurdistan, rooted in the area’s profound historical significance as part of ancient Mesopotamia, often referred to as the cradle of civilization. The festival aims to reshape the region’s cultural identity, promoting it as a place of creativity and development rather than political conflict. It seeks to cultivate a vibrant environment for storytelling, where ancient culture intersects with contemporary artistic expression.

By fostering cultural exchange and dialogue, the Duhok International Film Festival invites audiences to explore the rich tapestry of Kurdish culture through its cinema. Organized by the General Directorate of Culture, Arts, Sports, and Youth of Duhok City in collaboration with mitosfilm Berlin, the festival stands as a testament to the transformative power of film in uniting communities and celebrating artistic diversity. 

The 11th Duhok International Film Festival will be held from December 9 to 16.
