November 11, 2024 - 22:12

TEHRAN- In celebration of the 32nd edition of the Iran Book Week, the Iran Public Libraries Foundation has announced the opening of several new public libraries, aiming to bridge communities through access to knowledge and culture.

This initiative underscores the importance of libraries as vital centers for learning and community engagement throughout the nation, the Foundation’s Deputy for Library Development and Promotion of Reading Mohammad Reza Harati said in a press conference held in Tehran on Monday.

Throughout the year, the inauguration of public libraries across the country is a priority, however, during this week 25 more libraries are expected to open, amounting to an additional 12,500 square meters of library space nationwide, he mentioned.

As part of a broader strategy to enhance literary resources and promote reading habits, these new libraries will serve diverse communities, providing a plethora of books, digital resources, and interactive programs designed to inspire readers of all ages, he added.

The Iran Public Libraries Foundation, as the largest cultural book-centered network, has organized a variety of programs for this occasion.

Harati detailed that, "17,200 programs will be held nationwide, with the highest number in Fars, Isfahan, and Khuzestan provinces."

Moreover, he highlighted various programs for Book Week, including the exhibition of cartoon works, free membership initiatives, a business event in Isfahan, and the implementation of a reading campaign. He mentioned a unique card game called “Tarigh” aimed at promoting reading among ages eight and up, which simulates the journey of a group protecting Shia literature from destruction.

He further elaborated on the collaborative efforts with the Beautification Organization of Tehran to visually promote books and authors.

Speaking during the press conference, Harati stated that over the past three years, mobile libraries have expanded their services, with the preparation of three to four mobile libraries expected to be completed soon, and we are anticipating the launch of 12 more libraries by the end of the year.

"Reading for Empathy" is the motto of this year’s festival, which will be held from November 13 to 20.
