Tehran, Islamabad on the path to bolster military ties, defense cooperation
TEHRAN – The Deputy Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Support of the Islamic Republic of Iran engaged with high-ranking defense and military officials from Pakistan, highlighting the importance of enhancing collaborative efforts in the defense sector.
Brigadier General Seyyed Hojjatollah Qureishi, leading the Iranian delegation, conducted separate discussions in Islamabad with Khawaja Muhammad Asif, the Pakistani Minister of Defense, and General Muhammad Ali, the deputy chief of the Pakistani Defense Ministry.
In a statement regarding the Iranian delegation's meeting with the Minister of Defense, the Ministry of Defense of Pakistan noted that both parties expressed satisfaction with their current cooperation and underscored the need for its expansion in areas of shared interest.
During the discussions, the Minister of Defense of Pakistan acknowledged the unwavering support of Ayatollah Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, for oppressed nations, which is valued by the government and the people of Pakistan.
Furthermore, the Iranian delegation, led by Brigadier General Qureishi, visited the Ministry of Defense in Rawalpindi, where they met with General Muhammad Ali, the deputy chief of the Defense Ministry.
The discussions focused on various topics of mutual concern, with both sides expressing confidence in the ongoing collaboration between Iran and Pakistan, particularly in defense, border management, and counter-terrorism efforts.
The Ministry of Defense of Pakistan reported that these consultations were conducted in a constructive environment, with both delegations committing to further strengthen cooperation in the specified areas.
Additionally, General Qureishi held meetings with the commander-in-chief of the Air Force and the deputy commander of the Navy of Pakistan.
Iran and Pakistan have engaged in various forms of defense cooperation, including weapons development and training of military personnel. Also, both sides share a long border, and they have taken steps to enhance border security to prevent smuggling and infiltration by terrorist groups.
