Iranian freestylers win two golds at 2024 U23 World Championships
TEHRAN - Iran’s freestyle wrestlers Amirhossein Firouzpour and Amirreza Masoumi won two gold medals in the 2024 U23 World Championships.
Firouzpour defeated his American rival Jacob Cardenas 11-4 in the 92kg final bout.
Mustafagadzhi Malachdibirov (Individual Neutral Athlete) and Ion Demian (Moldova) won two bronze medals.
Masoumi also beat Bulgarian Alen Khubolov 11-0 in the 125kg weight class.
The bronze medals went to Abdulla Kurbanov (Individual Neutral Athlete) and Volodymyr Kochanov (Ukraine).
Earlier in the day, Iran’s Ebrahim Khari defeated Armenian wrestler Levik Mikaleyan in the 61kg bronze medal match.
More than 650 wrestlers compete in the event with 240 wrestlers each in Freestyle and Greco-Roman and 184 wrestlers in Women's wrestling.
The 2024 U23 World Wrestling Championships are being held from Oct. 21 to 27 in Tirana, Albania.
