Commander denies shooting incident on Iran-Afghanistan border
TEHRAN – The commander of the border guard in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province has vehemently denied reports originating from Western-funded media outlets that Iranian forces fired upon Afghan nationals.
The Sistan and Baluchestan border guard information center issued a statement refuting the allegations, which emerged after images of injured individuals circulated on social media. It is not clear where the injured are located, or how they ended up with the injuries.
Brigadier General Reza Shojaei, commander of the Eastern Border Guard Center, categorically rejected these claims, labeling the images and reports as inaccurate.
Shojaei emphasized that Iran has consistently treated Afghan nationals with respect for their human rights and maintained a spirit of good neighborliness throughout the years. He characterized the accusations of shooting as an attempt to foster negativity and sow discord between the two nations.
