Iran slams Israel’s use of chemical weapons against civilians in Gaza, Lebanon
TEHRAN – Iran's Ambassador to the Netherlands and permanent representative to the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has denounced the use of chemical weapons by the Israeli regime against Gaza and Lebanon.
During the 107th meeting of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Hadi Farajvand emphasized that the Israeli regime's possession of chemical weapons poses a significant threat to both international and regional peace and security.
Farajvand also expressed deep concern over the dire conditions in Gaza and Lebanon, highlighting the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Israeli regime against the Palestinian and Lebanese populations.
He pointed out that political and military backing has encouraged Israel to continue its violent actions in Lebanon and Gaza, targeting civilian areas and displacing residents.
“The Israeli regime not only breaches international law but also employs white phosphorus and other banned munitions in its military operations,” the Iranian ambassador cautioned, referencing reports of chemical weapons and depleted uranium being used in Israeli assaults on Lebanon.
The Iranian diplomat called on the OPCW to utilize its expertise to monitor the situation in Gaza and Lebanon, asserting that the objective of a world free from chemical weapons cannot be realized unless the convention is ratified by all nations, particularly the Israeli regime, which has extensive plans for the production, development, and deployment of chemical weapons.
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is an intergovernmental entity dedicated to enforcing the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and advancing efforts to prevent the spread of chemical weapons. Founded in 1997 and based in The Hague, Netherlands, the OPCW collaborates with its 193 member countries to strive for a world devoid of chemical weapons.
