TEHRAN – The Iranian military has started launching ballistic missiles at Israel in retaliation to a series of assassinations inside Iran and Lebanon.

Reportedly, Iran has so far launched 400 ballistic missiles at Israel. Missiles have been launched from Isfahan, Tabriz, Khoramabad, Karaj, and Arak.

The decision to retaliate against Israel was made by Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and after two months of "restraint",  the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement.

Israel assassinated Palestinian Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31. In its massive airstrikes on Beirut, Lebanon, on September 27, Israel also assassinated Iranian Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan, who acted as Iranian military advisor in Lebanon, and Lebanese Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

The New York Times quoted an Israeli citizen as saying, "I felt a series of large explosions near my home in north Tel Aviv, not far from the headquarters of Mossad, the foreign intelligence agency, and Unit 8200, the signals and cyber intelligence agency. The whole house was shaking."
