Presidents of Iran, Serbia highlight deteriorating situation in West Asia during New York meeting
During a meeting with the president of Serbia, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed deep concern over the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
“Today, West Asia is burning in the flames of slaughter and crimes committed by the Zionist regime, with the silence that implies support from the U.S. and some Western countries for these atrocities." He condemned the ongoing violence, highlighting that international law does not permit attacks on civilians, including women and children.
The Iranian official noted that after nearly a year of violence against innocent Palestinians, the situation has worsened with recent Israeli attacks in Lebanon, resulting in numerous casualties. "Are the newborns who have not yet been discharged from the hospital after birth the same militants that the Zionist regime claims to have killed?!" he questioned, challenging the legitimacy of the regime's actions.
Serbia’s Aleksandar Vucic echoed these sentiments, expressing sorrow over the attacks and emphasizing that such actions are carried out with American support. "Israel's crimes in Gaza and now Lebanon are executed with a green light from the U.S.," he stated, underlining America's historical role in facilitating such policies.
Both leaders discussed the potential for enhanced cooperation between Iran and Serbia, recognizing mutual interests that could strengthen their bilateral relations. Pezeshkian praised Serbia's constructive stance on territorial integrity and expressed optimism about future collaboration.
