Pezeshkian to address UN next Sunday
TEHRAN – The Iranian President is scheduled to participate in the United Nations General Assembly in New York, delivering a speech during the event.
As reported by the presidency office, Masoud Pezeshkian, accompanied by Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian foreign minister, will head to New York on Sunday, September 22, 2024, to engage in the UN General Assembly, with a speech planned for Tuesday, September 24.
Among the anticipated activities for the president of Iran during his New York visit are participation in a side event titled "Leaders for the Future," interactions with Iranian expatriates in the United States, dialogues with leaders of various faiths, meetings with media executives, think tanks, and additional bilateral discussions with leaders from European, Asian countries, and the Islamic world.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) convenes each year, usually commencing in September, bringing together representatives from all 193 member states to deliberate on and address significant global challenges.
The assembly acts as a forum for international collaboration and diplomacy, allowing world leaders to share their perspectives and work together on solutions to urgent issues. Common subjects of discussion include peace and security, sustainable development, climate change, human rights, and poverty alleviation.
The annual meeting of the UNGA features high-level dialogues, including the General Debate, where heads of state and government sequentially present their addresses.
