TEHRAN – Iran football team defeated Turkmenistan 6-1 in the opening match of the 2024 Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) U17 Championship Monday night.

Iran, headed by Abbas Chamanian, are scheduled to meet Uzbekistan on Wednesday in Group B.

Salman Ghafari (three goals), Abolfazl Kazemi, Artin Rostami and Erfan Khodadadian scored for Iran.

Host Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan are in Group A.

The 2024 CAFA U17 Championship will be held from August 17 to 24 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

The group winners will advance to the finals, and the second-place teams will compete for bronze medals. A match for fifth and sixth places is also planned.
