Israeli crimes clear violation of fundamental rights of Palestinians: envoy
TEHRAN – Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Office and International Organizations in Geneva, Ali Bahraini, has condemned the actions of the Zionist regime in Palestinian lands, calling them a "clear violation of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Palestinians."
Speaking at the 113th session of the Committee on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD), Bahraini emphasized Iran's unwavering commitment to eliminating racial discrimination and strengthening the culture of tolerance. "The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to eliminate racial discrimination and strengthen the culture of tolerance, especially in light of the new government's approach," he stated.
He also criticized the unilateral coercive measures and sanctions imposed by Western countries, particularly the "discrimination based on nationality," against Iran. "Despite the unilateral sanctions, the Islamic Republic of Iran has implemented positive measures to increase economic growth and development, including in underdeveloped areas, and to support immigrants and nationals," Bahraini noted.
Turning his attention to the Israeli regime, Bahraini denounced its "hostile actions and crimes" against the "oppressed and defenseless people of Palestine in Gaza," calling them a "clear violation of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Palestinians."
He highlighted Israel's refusal to sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) despite repeated calls, emphasizing its possession of "some 400 nuclear warheads in its arsenal." "Several member states, including Iran, have time and again called this a serious threat to peace and security in the region and beyond," he added.
