Iran-Russia gas deal hailed as win-win by Iran’s envoy
TEHRAN- The Iranian ambassador to Russia has described the Iran-Russia gas transfer deal as a win-win bargain for the two sides.
According to IRNA, Kazem Jalali stated, “The landmark project will benefit both sides. In the past, there were some speculations that Tehran and Moscow were rivals regarding energy. However, when policies are adopted based on mutual interests, they will turn into lasting policies.”
The Iranian envoy also called the Iran-Russia gas deal a mega-project.
The Iranian ambassador said that Iran’s gas network has the potential to transfer 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas per day, noting the Iran-Russia gas transfer deal meets Iran and the neighboring countries' energy security needs with great economic achievements to the benefit of Iran and Russia.
Earlier, Javad Owji, Iran’s Minister of Petroleum, stated on the X platform, “23 gas processing plants produce 850 million cubic meters of sweet gas per day. Additionally, the gas transfer project will significantly enhance the possibility of gas imports from Russia.”
In late June, the Iranian National Gas Company (NIGC) and the Russian company Gazprom signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for gas transfer from Russia to Iran. The framework for this gas transfer has been on the agenda for quite some time, and the late President Ebrahim Raisi emphasized its finalization.
