Iranian documentary “Destiny” grabs 2 prizes at Italy’s Faito Doc Festival
TEHRAN-The Iranian documentary “Destiny” by Yaser Talebi has won two awards at the 18th Faito Doc Festival, which was held from July 17 to 24 in Italy.
Talebi’s movie won the Best awards in two sections selected by the Youth Jury and the Jury The Magnificent, Mehr reported.
The documentary depicts the life of 18-year-old Sahar, who after the death of her mother, is left in charge of her poor, mentally disabled father in an isolated village in Iran. She dreams of going to university and becoming a doctor, but must play the role of caretaker unless her father remarries, ILNA reported.
The 2022 production is a warm and intimate observational portrait, letting the people and emotions reveal themselves. A thicket of relationships and expectations is at work here involving family, friends, religion, social expectations, and social media. It is a window into contemporary Iran, which captures a young woman caught between traditional gender roles and her desire for self-determination.
It is a moving film that tenderly invites us into the close relationship between a young girl and her disabled father. The narration of each daily movement is transformed into a sign of love and the inner beauty of the two protagonists is seen even in their choices in life, towards each other, full of wisdom.
Last November, the film won the Best Foreign Film Award at the 9th Peloponnese International Documentary Festival in Greece.
The originality of the Faito Doc is in the conjunction of a ‘naturally cinematographic’ place with the seventh art, nourished by a spirit of cheerful fraternity that reaches out to the participant, actor, or spectator of the event, making him or her the protagonist of a cultural feast. Authors and directors come from all over the world with their own visions of reality, to present their films.
During the years, the festival has sown a wealth of ideas and values that have restored cultural relevance to Monte Faito, also regenerating the spirit of the area and stimulating good energy and new activities in the area. The Faito is an extra-urban place, a natural park located 1,131 meters above sea level embracing two gulfs, facing the Bay of Naples, Vesuvius, the islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida it is a landscape imbued with nostalgia, appearing and disappearing in the clouds.
