Iranian pop singers’ efforts bring freedom to inmates of unintentional crimes
TEHRAN- Iranian pop singers have made significant contributions to freeing inmates of unintentional crimes across the country.
Mostafa Ragheb and Mohsen Chavoshi, two renowned Iranian pop singers, have separately helped release a number of inmates of unintentional crimes, IRNA reported.
Mostafa Ragheb donated 1.5 billion rials (approximately $2,800) to secure the freedom of several inmates in central province of Yazd who were unable to pay their debts, the report added.
The donation was made on the occasion of Muharram and Ashura, highlighting Ragheb's commitment to philanthropic efforts during this sacred month. He has a history of generosity, having donated 1 billion rials ($1,800) last year to free inmates who had committed unintentional crimes. He also performed a concert to raise funds for these inmates.
Meanwhile, Mohsen Chavoshi played a crucial role in freeing 110 inmates who were financially unable to pay their debts. His fans on Instagram contributed 16 billion rials (approximately $30,000) to the cause, allowing for the release of these inmates on Ashura Day.
Chavoshi's nationwide campaign aimed to support inmates facing financial difficulties due to unintentional crimes. His call to action inspired his fans on Instagram to make a massive donation, matching the amount needed to settle outstanding debts.
The timely intervention of Ragheb and Chavoshi, as well as their fans, has brought relief to the families of the released inmates, who had been eagerly awaiting news of their loved ones' freedom. The freedom of these individuals has also paved the way for many others who are still awaiting clearance from authorities.
On Ashura Day, hundreds of men and women from seven provinces - Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Gilan, Mazandaran, South Khorasan, Kerman, Kordestan, and East Azarbaijan - were released from prison.
While some have already been released, others are nearing the final stages of their release process.
