Two Iranian filmmakers to serve as jurors in Canadian, Italian festivals

TEHRAN-Two Iranian filmmakers will serve as jurors in film festivals in Canada and Italy in the coming months. 

Asghar Abbasi and Ali Asgari are the directors from Iran, who will be on the jury panels of The Human Environment Care Film Festival (HECFF) and Venice Film Festival, ISNA reported.

Abbasi, 44, is a short film director, writer and producer. He has a master's degree in cinema. He has made more than 20 short and documentary films and received numerous awards from various festivals.

HECFF is Canada's premier cultural event devoted exclusively to the exploration of human-environment care, human rights issues, and environment protection through films.

The 5th edition of the Human Environment Care Film Festival will be held from September 26 to 28 in Ontario, Canada.

Ali Asgari will be a juror in the Orizzonti section of the 81st Venice International Film Festival's official selection, due to be held from August 28 to September 7 in Italy.

Asgari, 41, is a writer, director and producer. He is a prominent independent filmmaker with many international awards to his name. His short and feature films were screened at many important film festivals around the world. 

Chaired by American director and screenwriter Debra Granik, the international jury of Orizzonti will also include Syrian film director and screenwriter Soudade Kaadan; Greek director, screenwriter, and producer Christos Nikou; Swedish actress and director Tuva Novotny; Hungarian filmmaker Gábor Reisz; and Italian screenwriter and director Valia Santella.
